The ASBA held its 15th Annual General Meeting at the Centro Riojano in Madrid, March 4, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The Meeting was presided by outgoing President Greg Stevens and Honoray President Australia's new Ambassador to Spain, Ms Zórica Mc Carthy. The full ASBA Board, with the exception of Andrew de Ville, ASBA's E Communications Director who was unable to attend due to other commitments, was present. Representatives from the New Zealand Embassy, Austrade, NZ Trade & Enterprise, and various Members were also in attendance. 

The highlights of the year 2009 were given by Members of the ASBA Board for their respective Regions- John Rochlin for Barcelona; Sonia Lorenzo for Galicia and Miguel Morell for Madrid. ASBA President, Greg Stevens reported on the very successful visit of the King and Queen of Spain to both Australia and New Zealand in late June of 2009 and of the Business Mission which accompanied them where more than 35 important Spanish companies were involved and of the Spain Australia Business Encounter, inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I in Sydney on Friday, June 26 where more than 300 representatives of Australian companies and institutions were in attendance. ASBA was a component of this important Business Encounter, as were ASBA Members, Austrade, Navantia and Airbus Military. Of special note was the incorporation of important new Members to ASBA such as PwC/ Landwell; STI Global; Bovis Lend Lease, Worsley Parsons and new individual member in Madrid, Cesar Rodenas of Winetipodes. ASBA Membership is growing and now stands at around 50 Members with great potential to capture significant new Members among the Spanish companies operating in Australia as well as those Australian companies operating in Spain who have not yet come on board. After the formalities of approving the financial statements and the management the Meeting proceeded to elect the new Board of ASBA for the period 2010 to 2012. Anew category of Membership- Sponsor Member aimed at the large corporation was approved. Outgoing President Greg Stevens, who had served a total of 6 terms in two different periods stated that it was time to bring new blood into the organisation and consequently would not be a candidate for reelection as President. The new team proposed and elected unanimously is composed of National President, Miguel Morell ( from Airbus Military); Vice President- Cataluña- John Rochlin; Vice President-Galicia- Sonia Lorenzo; Vice President- Madrid- Inés Calderon ( from Navantia); Secretary/ Treasurer- Carlos Díaz Marquina and Director E.Communications- Andrew de Ville. Immediate Past President Greg Stevens will be continue to collaborate closely with the Board and the Association. The new Organisation Chart is attached to this web page, as are the Minutes of the AGM. Thanks were given to outgoing President, Greg Stevens for all his efforts in setting up and directing the Association and a warm welcome was given to our new Honorary President, Ambassador Ms McCarthy.- The AGM was followed by ASBA's Spring Luncheon at which outgoing President, Greg Stevens was presented with a plaque in appreciation for his efforts.
